UMF Trademark
In 1995, A honey producer in New Zealand met with New Zealand trade enterprise officials to discuss the unique properties of Manuka honey and how to differentiate it from normal honey. In 1997, meetings were held and a trademark was developed. It’s the trademark that is still used to present day, called the UMF quality trademark. In 2004, the first audits for market grade Manuka honey were conducted.
